As you go more and more into SEO or Search Engine Optimization you will find that not many people know that SEO and link building go together and are the most effective search engine marketing. For the new people that just started looking at the subject I think that it is best that we start from the beginning and the beginning here is what link building is.
If you do not do SEO for your website, and your website is not “search Engine friendly” then you will not rank anywhere on any of the major search engine like Google, Yahoo, MSN (now LIVE), Ask and Altavista. You want to rank, because if you do not rank anywhere on at least one of these your website does not exist.
You might think that it is easy and that you can just build a website and submit it to search engines, sure you could do this, but you have no guarantee that you will get traffic or that you will rank anywhere or even that your submitted website will be considered for listing.
Once you have done all of this, it is best that you start a little friendship with some of the other webmasters out there, because this is where link building comes in. Please remember that many of the SEO and link building gurus say that you need to do your link building even before you have submitted you site to search engines, this is because search engines like it if you have some traffic running to your website when you submit it.
So let us get to the link building, this part is not as tricky as the SEO itself, this is why it comes at the very end, and as a side note, if you have it in your budget to pay someone to do your SEO for you, it will be best to do so.
There is something else that you will have to remember, if you rank on the 12 page, you will get very little traffic, if any traffic at all, you want to rank somewhere from page 1 to page 9 or 10 if possible, because research has shown that not many browsers browse past page ten of any search engine, they would rather type in a different keyword and browse again, this is also why you have to choose your keywords very carefully.
If you think that you can get by with your online company without doing any sort of advertising you will find that your business will go down in a few months. There is no way that any business on the internet will survive not doing SEO.
The answer to that is simple, you need to stick to with the times, and no we are not talking about the magazine, though if you where to advertise there you would get great exposure. Part 1 of 4. The cost of hosting websites has fallen dramatically over the past ten years. What once went for thousands now only costs a few dollars per month, bringing the vast array of online opportunities easily into the price range of almost every business.
Before going further, we need to define terms. First, Website marketing deals with Webpages and Websites, email, search engines and the Internet as the foundation of the World Wide Web. Businesses can sell services and goods via Website marketing by using these methods.
According to Wikipedia, here are the definitions of phrases that you need to know about when studying Website marketing:
The world wide web is a global interlinked network of hypertext documents. Navigable via browser, users can view a vast array of text and multimedia content in an interconnected manner.
Web Server: A computer program that’s responsible for accepting HTTP requests from clients (user agents such as Web browsers), and serving them HTTP responses along with optional data, which usually are Webpages such as HTML documents and linked objects (images, etc.).
Each web server is reachable via an IP address, a globally unique series of numbers that locates it on the internet. For instance, google.com is located at the address 63.146.123.0. Comparing this to a business with a physical location, if your IP is a difficult-to-remember street address, then the associated domain name is a more memorable business name.
Each server can host dozens if not thousands of distinct websites, each with its own unique domain name, IP address and content. This practice has become common for hosting companies, and is one of the major factors behind the massive drop in hosting costs.
Easily remembered domain names are translated into cryptic IP addresses by the domain name system (DNS). Any resource or service connected to the internet can be assigned a unique name, thus eliminating the need to remember IP addresses by making them readable by human and computer alike.
