The Pell Grant is student aid program provided by the Federal government to college students from low-income families. It has been around since the 1970s and the program was named after its sponsor, then Rhode Island Senator Claireborne Pell. The Federal Pell Grants are usually given to undergraduates or those who do not have a professional degree yet. There are also instances when the said grant is rewarded to certain post baccalaureate students. As with other Federal student aids, you need to be a US citizen or an eligible non-citizen, have a valid SSN, a high school graduate or its equivalent, and have not been convicted of drug-related felonies.
