Having a webpage online does not mean you will automatically get the traffic you want. Driving people to your website takes a lot of work and part of that work is from back linking. Knowing how to get backlinks is key to your success as an internet marketer.

There are a number of ways to get the backlinks you want; here are a few of the methods I use:

1. List your site on directories. There are a number of free directories on the internet. You should consider submitting your site to as many of these as you can.

2. Link exchanges. Feel free to exchange links with other website owners; however, you should only exchange links with sites that are similar to yours in content and topics discussed.

3. Provide quality content. If you want traffic, then provide actual value to what you are publishing online. Anyone can create a website in minutes and publish it, but is it something people will actually want to read, visit and send other people to? Give, give, give and you will receive plenty in return.

4. Publish articles. This is one of the best ways to receive free traffic and back links to your website. The articles that you publish should provide some value and information to the people who read them. They may even visit your website if your article is interesting enough.

5. RSS Feeds. Submit your web page to RSS sites and syndicate the content. This allows other websites to display your content and you may get additional traffic through this method.

6. Posting in forums. You can include your webpage in your forum signature, but make sure you add value to the forum and don’t spam. If you spam, your posts will more than likely be deleted and you could wind up being banned from the forum altogether.

There are a number of ways to backlink, and once you understand how to get backlinks you can expect your pages’ ranking with the search engines to go up.
