In 1925, Jean Patou created three perfumes that will take on the world by storm – one of which is Joy Perfume. Since it has been released in 1929, it has been the standard by which other perfumes have tried to live up with. In the depression of Post-World War I and the Wall Street Crash, the Jean Patou has lifted the spirit of his American clients with which Joy perfume was made for. The ultimate luxury and uncompromised quality of the doubled essential oils contained in the perfume made it a must-have as a hope to depressing times.

Prior to the most famous Joy perfume’s release, two other fragrances were released. One of which is Adieu Sagesse in 1925. Of the Chypre Floral group, this scent opens with neroli, narcissus, bergamot, lily and black currant. Its middle notes are jasmine, carnation and tuberose while the base is of vetivir and musk. At the same year, Amour Amour was also released under the floral group. Top notes include neroli, bergamot, wild strawberry and lemon then followed with a floral carnation, lily, lilac, orris root, ylang-ylang, jasmine, narcissus and rose. The base is comprised of honey, civet, vetiver, heliotrope and musk.

Other perfumes followed Joy after its huge success. 1938 brought us Colony, with Henry Almeras as the nose behind this scent that is of Oriental group. The top notes are of pineapple and ylang-ylang with carnation, iris, vetiver, opoponax and iris at its heart. It is then laid in a foundation of leather and musk.

Standing out from the crowd is a woman that is offered with Sublime by the Jean Patou House. A mixture of the most delicate yet sensual notes, the top notes are of bergamot, tangerine and coriander with green accords to give you a fresh and sweet tinge. Middle notes go floral with ylang-ylang, rose, jasmine and neroli oil while it dries down with vanilla, sandalwood, civet, and cedar. Packaged in an elegant bottle that whispers elegance, it is crowned with a gold stopper to exude luxury.

A soft floral fruity touch as in the Joy perfume is the 1998 floral fruity perfume that is Un Amour de Patou. Aldehydes, mahogany and green notes open it up with floral jasmine, lily and rose at the middle. It is finished off with sandalwood and musk base.

Over the years, Jean Patou has never failed to commit its brand to the excellence that it has started since mid-1920. Today, his most famous Joy perfume has been the standards by which other perfumes such as Ghost perfume and others has respected for decades.
